oh, you are kidding me – that lights my fire, because it is so inherently WRONG!

What about James 2:1-4? is this not “favoritism” and/or catering to the “needs” (more like “wants”) of the rich?

I guess I’ll be adding that to my prayer list….hopefully they’ll come to their senses.

  2. Bill says:

Maybe they are trying to implement 1 Corinthians 9:19-22.Perhaps trying to be a servant at a level expected by those with money that they might reach those with money?

Then one might ask why would believers be surprised at what some of the mainstream churches do to increase their membership? Are there not congregations that offer coffee during services so that the attendees / worshipers might be more relaxed and welcomed?

But WRONG? Who are we to judge those outside the Church? 1 Corinthians 5:12-13

  3. James says:

The Lark is pretty much like The Onion, but with a Christian bent. It’s satire.

Of course, good satire is believable.

  4. James says:

Something to balance out the I Cor. passage:

“Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.”

    James 2:2-9 NIV

  5. Angie says:

James, you are a hoot! Do you subscribe to the Wittenburg Door? Once I saw the “Lark News” link… I knew what was to come!

And I have a book that is by the creator of Lark News. It’s called “A Field Guide to Evangelicals & Their Habitat.” It’s sad because it’s mostly true…

  6. James says:

The first time I saw the ad for the Field Guide to Evangelicals I thought is was a typical Lark News joke…but I thought, “Someone really should write that.” Lo and behold…he did!

  7. MommyHAM says:

    Ok….so it’s a humor thing, I geeeeeeeeeeet it!?!

I used to love the Onion while in college. Too bizarre that there is a Christian equivalent – or maybe not really – we do still have humor, right?

  8. Bill says:

Got me.. hook, line, & sinker.

    Got bait?
