If you’re like me, you’re paying nearly $2.50/gallon for gas. Now, we’ve heard all the politicians talk about how the prices are purely because of the increased Chinese demand and the war in Iraq/war on terror. If you buy that, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you.
Just take a look at the Global Fortune 500 list for this year. Three of the top five are oil companies reporting record profits. Exxon-Mobil took in $25,000,000,000.00 in profit…PROFIT…in one year. How much of that will buy a few more years of “there’s nothing we can do” in Washington, D.C.? Clearly, neither party is working too hard for the good of the consumer, and neither are the corporations…why should they? With profits like that, $2.50 at the pump is hurting their wallet.
Yeah, these guys are clearly concerned about the economic ramifications of $2.50/gal. fuel on consumers, farmers, etc. Clearly they are tempering the level of profit to make sure we don’t end up with record inflation down the road. Nah, that would mean bowing to a God other than the green god of greed, wouldn’t it? Never mind.
